The AGM of the Central European Association (26th -29th May)
Ascensiontide, 2021: St George's is one of just four rings of English change-ringing bells on mainland Europe. The others are in Dordrecht (Netherlands, 2), and Ieper (Belgium). Our 'local' ringing society is the Central European Association. We were delighted to host the AGM here for the first time. Around a dozen members made the long trips from Germany, Northern France, the Netherlands and England and were joined by the local band. Two peals (one on tower bells and one on handbells) and five quarters (three tower and two in hand) were rung. Our local band benefitted enormously from being able to ring with more experienced ringers and all those who were there are now paid-up members.
Platinum jubilee service and shared lunch (6th June)
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend coincided with Pentecost, so Rev John Honeyford lead a celebration of both at our morning service. Afterwards, we went on to Maggie and Norman's house in Eus, where, on a glorious sunny day, we enjoyed a shared lunch in their garden, complete with a splendid Jubilee trifle made by Liz Swingler. Sadly, the photos don't show much food, but I can assure you, it was plentiful and delicious. Many thanks to all those who contributed.
