Having attended a few services in both French speaking
churches in Collioure, we were reading through the Anglophone-direct magazine (P-O Life) and noticed that there was a service in English at St. George’s, Vernet- les- Bains. We decided that it would be good to visit St George’s at Easter and also see the spring time scenery on the journey, as this is our favourite time of the year. We were not disappointed. The vines were sprouting their lime green leaves, the various fruit trees were similarly displaying a range of green hues. The array of colour from the wild flowers was magnificent and it was wonderful to see all the blossom coming out.
We arrived at Vernet–les-Bains and found Rue du Temple, which is very narrow, but after speaking to three local church goers walking in the right direction, we found that we could park close to the church. We were welcomed very warmly and thoroughly enjoyed the service. Though a small congregation, there was some fine singing, organ playing and a thoughtful sermon by the Rev. David Phillips. It was a lovely service for the most important day in the Christian calendar.
After the service and a quick annual meeting there was coffee, with Easter eggs and a beautifully baked slice of simnel cake for all. There was then time to chat to the many friendly members of the congregation before leaving on our return journey to Collioure.
Thank you all for making us both so welcome, we will be back.
